A first year woman student of a private nursing college in Oddanchathiram, who jumped from the third floor of the college five days ago, died at a hospital in Dindigul on Sunday. Investigation revealed that the hostler was stressed out as she had some dispute with her room mates.
The student from Palayapatti was staying at the college hostel and attending classes. She jumped from the third floor of the college building on February 21 and suffered severe injuries. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Oddanchatram judicial magistrate Selva Maheswari and Dindigul superintendent of police V Baskaran were roped in for investigation. Under these circumstances, the girl died in the hospital without responding to treatment. The hospital management shifted the body to Dindigul Government Hospital for postmortem. Tension prevailed on the GH premises after women’s rights activists held a demonstration demanding an inquiry by Dindigul RDO.
Subsequently, the postmortem was carried out in the presence of the RDO. The body was later handed over to the woman’s parents and relatives. The final rites of the student were carried out in Oddanchatram crematorium..
